ACCENT REDUCTION
Instructor: Aiken
This course is divided into three parts: Vowels, consonants and stress, rhythm, and intonation necessary for effective oral communication in the work environment and in daily life skills. The class, comprising of level three and above ESOL students, will learn how to speak English more clearly and accurately utilizing all aspects of pronunciation. Diagrams will be discussed regarding the placement of the tongue in the voiced and unvoiced sounds, the correct usage of voice and intonation to express feelings, and aspects of word endings for clear speaking.

Mrs. Akien is state certified in K-6 Elementary Education, 6-12 Mathematics, and is Reading Endorsed. She also has earned her National Board Certification. She has taught in both Leon and Palm Beach Counties, at the elementary, middle, high school, and adult levels. Mrs. Akien has a BS in Mathematics with a focus in Actuarial Science and a BS in Business Administration. She has been recognized as Distinguished Educator of the Year and has served as a Laptop Initiative for Education Mentor Teacher.

This course covers tool and menu bar; creating a finished image made up of sections of other images; removal of blemishes and lines in faces and creating a studio portrait from a snapshot.

Irv Goldman has been professional photographer since 1957. He has owned and operated his photo studio from 1960 to 1984 when he retired to Florida. With the marriage of computers and photography, he entered the world of Photoshop since 1993. His work has been shown at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, several other galleries (e.g. the Lighthouse Gallery, Tequesta, Florida, Picture It Gallery, New York) various banks and private homes. Mr. Goldman has taught at Boca Raton Community Middle School for the past seven years.

BALLROOM DANCING, BEG. RHUMBA, FOXTROT, Waltz

This class will give you the confidence to say, "May I have this dance?" In this class for beginners, you will learn the basic movement of ballroom dancing. Singles most welcome. Dances that are taught are Foxtrot, Rumba, and Waltz.


Instructor: Jack Hartman was born and raised in Kansas City. He was a volunteer ballroom dancing teacher for over 20 years. In 2002 he placed third in the Michelob Light Swing Dance Competition in Orlando, Florida. He has successfully coached many ballroom dance competition winners. He has been teaching at Boca Raton Community Middle School for the past eight years.

BALLROOM DANCING, INT. TANGO, CHA CHA, AND MERINGUE
Instructor: Hartman This class is for intermediate level dancers to learn more movements of ballroom dancing. This is the one you want to take so your friends will say, "I didn't know you could dance like that!" Dances that will be taught are Foxtrot, Rumba, Tango, Cha Cha, and Meringue.

BEGINNING AND INTERMEDIATE GUITAR:

This course will teach the basics of guitar playing- tuning your guitar, playing chords, learning strumming patters, keys and scales, and reading chord and tab charts which are the basic "tools" of playing the guitar. With this "musical toolbox" a student will leave this course with a collection of songs they can play for family and friends.
Josh Olive has played the guitar for over five years. After taking just a few months of lessons, Josh's passion for the guitar drove him to excel in his playing and learning. He is currently an instructor for Palm Beach Creative Arts Academy (PBCAA) teaching guitar and piano/keyboard. Josh works well with young and old alike. His patient and personal demeanor make him a favorite instructor at PBCAA. He also plays guitar and keyboard on a weekly basis in two separate bands for his local church.

Body Toning
Instructor: Santana Guinn
Sculpted arms, tight abs, and firm and shapely legs are the primary focus of this challenging session. The muscle toning workout features a creative combination of resistance exercises, stretching exercises, core exercises, and cardiovascular training versus weight training. The benefits of our program will include weight and nutrition information; participants will create an exercise plan with new and wiser eating choices.

BRAIN TEASERS-INCREASING MEMORY

This class is for those who seek simple and natural ways to learn and exercise the mind outside a traditional classroom setting. The class gives a brief overview of what is needed for good mental health and uses a series of fun and enlightening brain teasers to holistically address important areas of mental health most responsive to growth and increased activity including the brain centers that govern our attention, stress and emotional management, motor coordination, memory, spatial, visual and auditory processes, language, problem solving and planning.

She is a dedicated non-profit management professional with a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her eight years of progressive responsibility at a local non-profit has resulted in counseling and intervention services of over 6000 families and led to a recent career transition which has doubled her annual income, renewed her creativity and allowed her to live her dreams. She seeks to do the same for those she encounters.

It is a fun and relaxing hobby. Using this popular needlecraft, you will create beautiful fashion and home décor projects.
In this class you'll learn the basic stitches of crochet: single, double and triple (treble) stitches, and finishing and edging techniques. The class project is a sampler motif for a table cloth or bedspread and you will also learn a scarf pattern at the end of class that will allow you to keep working on your new-found skills. INTRODUCTION TO GIS

Susan Oyer GIS, Geographic Information Systems, is essentially computerized mapping. The student will learn the basics of GIS including data sorting, applying data to maps, and creating finished maps. The students will be using the same tools as those by governmental agencies around the world. Upon completion, the student will have a basic understanding of GIS and then may elect to continue their GIS education through accredited courses at FAU or PBCC. HUNGARIAN FOOD, LANGUAGE, AND CULTURE

The course will introduce the Hungarian language and give participants a basic grasp of simple greetings and conversation. Various aspects of Hungarian culture, traditions, and history will be introduced to participants. Favorite Hungarian dishes will be cooked in the school's new Home Economics area. By the end of eight weeks, you should be able to pronounce any written Hungarian word and hold a limited conversation in Hungarian.

NAR-ANON MEETING
Nar-Anon Family Groups are a worldwide fellowship for those affected by someone else's addiction. Nar-Anon is a program designed to help relatives and friends of addicts recover from the effects of living with an addicted relative or friend. The only requirement to be a member and attend Nar-Anon meetings is that there is a problem of drugs or addiction in a relative or friend. Acrylic painting course is designed to teach students the various concepts of painting. Beginning with the initial concept or "idea" through how to create a painting using color and compositional techniques, the students will learn to generate a finished painting.

WORD AND EXCEL FOR NEW USERS

This course provides competency in using toolbars and menus, opening documents, and using document views; creating documents and entering text, saving documents and working with document properties; selecting, editing, copying and moving text; inserting date and time fields, using automatic text features; previewing and printing documents etc.
*Excel 2003
This course provides competency in creating workbooks, modifying worksheets, formatting worksheets and printing worksheets. This course also provides competency in creating and editing formulas, working with basic functions and the Function Wizard, applying text attributes and other formatting characteristics, creating workbooks from templates, using styles, adding worksheet backgrounds, applying Autoformats, and finding and replacing data.
Ms. Laguerre is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and is literate in computer skills and terminology. Her degree is in Human Resources Management and she uses Word and Excel in her current position.

YOGA, HATHA

Achieve physical and mental self-improvement brought about by classic Hatha Yoga postures, known Asanas, and by regulated breathing exercises. It is an integration of the mind, body, spirit, for better health and a sense of well-being by becoming more flexible and learning how to relax.
Students will need a floor mat.

Marilyn McElveen began teaching Yoga in June 1973. She is a certified teacher from Ma Yogashakti Saraswati who has Ashrams in India; London, UK; in New York; and Florida. Ms. McElveen is an avid biker who bikes from state to state (and foreign countries) at least once a year on camping trips.
