Description: Acrylic painting course is designed to teach students the various concepts of painting. Beginning with the initial concept or "idea" through how to create a painting using color and compositional techniques, the students will learn to generate a finished painting.

INTRODUCTION TO BABY SIGN LANGUAGE

NEW INTERIOR DECORATING IDEAS

Description: Interior Decoration is the adornment of the interior of a building, public or domestic. It refers to the decorating of homes, offices, schools, hospitals, ships, boats, airplanes, hotels, caravans, and much more.

 

An Interior Decorator is charged with applying or updating the finishes and elements that will make that room “the finished room”. The finished room is a term that is used for describing a room that is completely dressed with accessories.

 

 

Instructor’s Background: Joan Snow has been decorating since 1984 and holds a certificate in decorating. She is a former member of the Boca Newcomers club where she lectured on interior decorating. She is also a past member of a Boca Raton decorating group. She has participated in Career Days for the public school system. She has a specialty designing rooms for men, themed rooms, and is also very knowledgeable in staging your home for sale.

Instructor’s Background: William Joyce has been involved with the Stock Market since 1962 and has an in-depth knowledge of its workings. He is licensed with the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) for the following: Series 7 Stockbrokers; Series 24 Registered Principal/Manager; Series 65 Registered Investment Advisor; Series 63 Uniform State Securities; Life, Health, and Annuities License; and also a real estate broker’s license. Description: This class will cover the following:

Spanish alphabet, phonetics, reading simple words, translating using an English and Spanish dictionary; greetings and expressions of courtesy; days of the week, months; numbers by fives and tens; colors and time.

 

Instructor’s Background: Ileana Codd is a graduate of the Yucatan University, Mexico. She graduated in 1987 with a degree in Social Science. She has resided in the United States for 16 years. She has a degree in Spanish has received a letter of eligibility to teach Spanish in Florida from the Department of Education. Since returning to the work force after raising her children, she has been at Boca Raton Community Middle for the past three years.

STOCKBROKERS SERIES 7

 

Instructor: Joyce

Description: Learn requirements to pass the Series 7 Exam

 

Instructor’s Background: William Joyce has been involved with the Stock Market since 1962 and has an in-depth knowledge of its workings. He is licensed with the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) for the following: Series 7 Stockbrokers; Series 24 Registered Principal/Manager; Series 65 Registered Investment Advisor; Series 63 Uniform State Securities; Life, Health, and Annuities License; and also a real estate broker’s license. He has been teaching in this area over 45 years. Mr. Joyce has written for the NASD and has received awards for his exam questions. His students have an 85% success rate passing the Series 7 exam.

Instructor’s Background: Julia Hart is a retired Palm Beach County administrator. She has over 40 years experience in education and with substitute teachers. She brings a vibrancy to the class with her years of experience.

PERSONAL TAX PREPARATION TIPS

 

Description: This two-hour course is designed to inform the average consumer of how to take advantage of common tax laws regarding their 2009 taxes. Content will include, but not be limited to, understanding the differences between each filing status, knowing which form may be best to use for their personal taxes, changes between the 2008 and 2009 tax years, where to file, and discussion of the most common forms and their functions. Each student will be given a packet of common forms for the 2009 year plus a packet of commonly asked tax questions.

 

Instructor’s Background: Jim Gard has a personal tax business with his wife, Tina. He has conducted several seminars for Babies “R” Us and is registered with the IRS. Jim has been a high school math teacher in Broward County since 1982 and is currently teaching at Stoneman Douglas High School.

WALKING & RUNNING CLUB

 

Join this club and use the Boca Middle track to run and walk at your leisure. There is not set schedule. Participants need to check in the office before proceeding to the track to walk or run. Open before 9 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Open on weekends.

This course provides competency in using toolbars and menus, opening documents, and using document views; creating documents and entering text, saving documents and working with document properties; selecting, editing, copying and moving text; inserting date and time fields, using automatic text features; previewing and printing documents etc.

 

*Excel 2007

This course provides competency in creating workbooks, modifying worksheets, formatting worksheets and printing worksheets. This course also provides competency in creating and editing formulas, working with basic functions and the Function Wizard, applying text attributes and other formatting characteristics, creating workbooks from templates, using styles, adding worksheet backgrounds, applying Autoformats, and finding and replacing data.

 

Instructor’s Background: Ms. Laguerre is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and is literate in computer skills and terminology. Her degree is in Human Resources Management and she uses Word and Excel in her current position.

YOGA, HATHA

Description: Achieve physical and mental self-improvement brought about by classic Hatha Yoga postures, known Asanas, and by regulated breathing exercises. It is an integration of the mind, body, spirit, for better health and a sense of well-being by becoming more flexible and learning how to relax.

 

Students will need a floor mat.

 

Instructor’s Background: Marilyn McElveen began teaching Yoga in June 1973. She is a certified teacher from Ma Yogashakti Saraswati who has Ashrams in India; London, UK; in New York; and Florida. Ms. McElveen is an avid biker who bikes from state to state (and foreign countries) at least once a year on camping trips.
