ARTS / CRAFTS
BEGINNING CONCEPTS IN ART (ages 10 and up)
The Beginning art class will cover basic deign concepts including use of light and shading, perspective and art history to illustrate each concept. The student will start by using drawing pencils and then may choose watercolor, pastel or pen & ink mediums to practice each concept and explore their own creative potential in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Week 1: Introduction and cover basic drawing and design concepts with practice in shading shaped and the use of perspective to develop eye hand coordination. The use of light and composition will be discussed as it relates to upcoming projects and their subject matter.
Week 2 & 3: each student can choose to either bring a photo thy would like to draw, or choose from ones provided, and learn to create a drawing from a picture.
Week 4 & 5: each student will learn to draw from a still life created in front of them and will be introduced to new mediums such as water color, pastel and pen & ink.
Week 6, 7, & 8: Each student has the choice of subject matter and will work on a final project in their choice of medium(s).
POTTERY - BEGINNING WHEEL AND HANDBUILDING
Learn to throw on the potter's wheel! Beginning and intermediate students will learn basic wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques for creating bowls, bottles, boxes, vases and other vessels in clay. Basic glaze and under glaze methods will be demonstrated for decorating your work. An open class format allows students to work at their own pace and develop their own style with individual instruction and attention given as needed.
ILLUSTRATION FROM LIFE
Introduces students to several drawing ideas and techniques that will improve their abilities and skills. The ideas and techniques, also known "tools" will be stretched within an eight-week period. Each week, students will learn a new technique that will be implemented into their drawings. In the end, students will have an array of abilities, helping them create a full composition in their own style; also, students will realize their improvements.
The course will focus on the use of pencil on paper - 11" x 14" Sketchpad or bigger. The last class will be an open critique so students could give and receive feedback from other class members.
CAKE DECORATING II and III
Course to learn how to fill, frost cakes, make flowers, and various decorating techniques using Butter Cream Frosting and Royal Icing. Gain confidence and expand your creativity while having fun.
CAKE DECORATING (FONDANT COURSE I - BEGINNING)
Learn how to work with Fondant and Gum paste, making bows, flowers, and working with molds.
Learn how to cover cakes with fondant. Gain confidence and expand your creativity while having fun.
CLASS SUPPLIES:
1. Fondant 5 lbs: May make your own (request recipe when you register) or you may purchase pre-made (teacher prefers Satin Ice).
2. Tylos - used to turn fondant into gum paste.
3. Rolling Pins - 1 small and 1 large rolling pin.
Teacher will have other supplies available for students for class use only.
COMPUTER
EXCEL 2003
Do you want to learn the basics of using an electronic spreadsheet, learn to input data and add rows and columns, do simple calculations or just be able to create, edit, print, save, and open spreadsheets?
Learn the terminology and capabilities of Excel 2003.
Understand how Excel can facilitate effective data manipulation and presentation.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS
This course will present the students with the necessary knowledge to get started in their quest for computer skills. More than just facts and skills, this course will focus on understanding how computers and software programs work. This will make a great foundation for learning more advanced skills down the road. You'll be familiar with computer terms and concepts, and using Microsoft Windows XP. You'll learn lots of great tips to make working with your computer easy and fun!
INTRODUCTION MICROSOFT OFFICE
This course is comprised of eight 2-hour classes. It is designed for beginners to intermediate with emphasis on beginners. Office is comprised of several programs that perform many tasks. We will discuss all of them. However, only the following programs will be taught in detail.
WORD: word processing functions, letter writing, address book, envelopes and labels.
EXCEL: create spreadsheets
POWER POINT: make slide presentations
OUTLOOK/OUT LOOK EXPRESS: writing and managing E-mail
KEYBOARDING AND TYPING CLASS
Tired of the hunt and peck technique? Whether you would like to upgrade your employment skills or simply improve your typing skills. This class will be beneficial to you.
Using software and instruction we will be looking to enhance your ability to type using a computer keyboard.
Whether you are a computer wizard or a pc novice, sign up now to become more proficient at this most fundamental skill!.
PHOTOSHOP (DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY)
This fun 8 week course will introduce students to the basic skills necessary to take and edit digital pictures. Everything from buying a digital camera to printing your final edited photograph will be covered. If you're interested in becoming a digital wizard, sign up now!
QUIKBOOKS
This course is an introduction to QuickBooks. Its main objective is to introduce you to the basic features in QuickBooks and give you an opportunity for hands-on practice. You'll learn about the types of information you need to track in your business, and you'll see how to enter that information in QuickBooks. By the time you complete the course, you will have a good idea of all that QuickBooks offers, you'll be familiar with the most common tasks, and you'll know where to find information about more advanced features. Most be familiar with Windows.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES
CREDIT LAB: The High School Credit classes are designed as individualized courses enabling the student to work independently at his/her own speed. Credit classes, with the approval of the guidance department, may be used as a means to raise a student's grade point average for graduation. Students are able to forgive D's and earn credit for F's.
GED PROGRAM: The GED (General Education Development) program provides the opportunity for adults to complete formal high school requirements and to achieve a State of Florida High School Diploma. The GED preparatory classes include the five areas of study: writing skills, social studies, science, reading skills and mathematics. Classes run from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
GENERAL WOOLSHOP (Ages 18 & up):
Open to adults with all levels of knowledge. You will learn and practice several skills and techniques that can be used in class on tabletop sized projects for woodworking in order to work safely and independently on larger home projects. You will learn planning, drawing, measuring, safe usage of hand and power tools, machines, and materials, to make your first practice project (trivet, hot-pot plate, or plaque) from start to finish.
This class is three hours long to allow set up, plenty of work time, as well as clean up time.
LANGUAGE: The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is a program for people that desire to learn the English language. Communication skills and literacy in English are the primary objectives. Students are assessed for English proficiency levels and assigned to the appropriate level of class. Classes will be for citizens, resident aliens, immigrants, refugees, and visa students. Classes are from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Monday thru Wednesday
SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TRAINING
Learn the skills and techniques to successfully manage classroom behavior. Eligibility: A day-to-day substitute is a temporary employee who works on an as needed basis. An official transcript(s) reflecting a minimum of 30 semester hours of college credit is required.
WILLS, TRUST AND FINANCE CLASS. (This is a one day: two & ½ HOUR CLASS)
The purpose of this class is to educate the public about the legal implications of dying with or without a Last Will & Testament or dying after having executing a Revocable Living Trust. You will have time to discuss real life cases and the problems that could have been avoided if people had planned otherwise.
DANCE
BALLROOM AND LATIN DANCE:
Ballroom dancing is one of the "fun-filled" ways to improve your skills on the dance floor and at the same time get lots of exercise. You will learn the basic patterns in Cha Cha, Rumba, Waltz, Fox Trot, Swing, Tango and Merengue.
JAZZ Dance for Beginning Children
Beginning classical jazz dancing for children 6 -12 years of age.
Learn basic turns, kicks, combinations, and short routines. Essential learning for children for the basic four: ballet, jazz, tap, modern.
Wear dancewear or exercise wear. Sneakers or jazz shoes, No experience is needed.
BELLYDANCE for Beginners (Adults only)
Lear shimmies, short dance routines, veil work and more. Wear comfortable clothing. No experience is needed.
COUNTRY WESTERN LINE DANCINF for Beginners (Teens and Adults)
Learn basic moves and their names. Beginner dances are mainly non-couple. Simple easy. Wear comfortable clothing. No experience is needed.
CLOGGING (Teens and Adults)
Basic beginner moves and routines for clogging (similar to tap dance and "Riverdance".) Wear comfortable clothing and tap shoes are mandatory. no experience is needed.
FITNESS
INTODUCTORY BATON AND CHEEROEDING & LEVEL 1 (Ages 6-8)
A great class that incorporates batons, dance, ribbons, pom routines and flags with footwork and teamwork. Routines will be taught for show, stage, parades and local competitions.
LEVEL 1 Class designed for those that know basic baton skills. A more advanced class that puts tricks together in combinations... tosses, flips, and beginner exchanges. Two baton is introduced, more dance, ribbons and poms. They will also be working on routines for parade, stage, show and local competition.
BATON & CHEERLEADING LEVEL 2 (Ages 6-8)
Competition Class- designed for students that know the basic twirls- figure 8's, flat spins, beginner rolls, flips, tosses, and exchanges. Will work on combinations and turns.
INTRODUCTORY BATON AND CHEERLEDING (Ages 3-5)
Class set up for 3-5 years old. Basic twirls incorporated with footwork to increase coordination skills. Dance, ribbon, baton and pom routines for stage and shows. Builds confidence and teaches children to work together.
BARON AND CHEERLEDING (Ages 9-15)
Combination class for students that know the basic twirls- figure 8's, flat spins, beginner rolls, flips, tosses, and exchanges. Will work on combinations and turns.
Routines with baton, flag, dance, and poms taught for parade, stage, show and local competitions.
LOW IMPACT AEROBICS:
A great way to improve your fitness level without the worry of strenuous pressure on the joints and muscles. Excellent for people just beginning or starting after some time off. Low impact aerobics is a nice and steady pace focusing on all areas of the body without jumping, one foot will always be one the floor.
This class will combine fat burning, muscle building, and flexibility in a fun atmosphere that will send stress running away and encourage energy to stay within the body.
Your exercise clothing should be light weight to allow freedom of movement. Shoes giving support and cushion to the balls of your feet. Shoes should also slide on the floor but not slip.
Even though low impact aerobics is fun and safe it is always a good idea to have a check-up first before starting with any exercise program.
Please bring a towel and water to class and get ready to have fun!
PILATES
Want a flat stomach and stronger muscles. Pilates is the class for you. Strengthen and lengthen all your muscles for a longer, leaner look. Come join this fun new class and make sure to bring your own mat.
TENNIS BEGINNERS (Children 8-13)
The children's tennis course is for ages 8-13 years old and will cover the basic fundamental skills such as forehand and backhand ground strokes, volleys and serves, proper grip, basic scoring, on-court rules, etiquette and sportsmanship conduct. The students will also have an opportunity to play the game: singles and doubles and have fun at the same time.
NOTE: Each student MUST have a racquet and NEW can of tennis balls.
TENNIS (Adult Beginners)
The Adult beginner tennis course will cover the basic fundamentals skills, ie. Equipment selection, use of proper grips, forehand and backhand ground strokes, along with volleys, lobs and serves. In addition, this course will cover basic double positioning, scoring, court rules and court etiquette. If you want to learn a life-long game, get in some good conditioning and exercise, and have fun, this course is for you.
NOTE: Each student MUST have a racquet and NEW can of tennis balls.
YOGA
Mental and physical relaxation though steady breathing and deliberate stretching. Some of the health and fitness benefits of yoga are:

" Boosting physical endurance/energy level
" Health improvements
" Stress management
" Enhanced positive moods
" Posture
You should wear loose and comfortable clothes when you stretch. For best results, yoga classes should be taken in moderation with at least a full day break in between.
LANGUAGE
SPANISH - (BEGINNING)
This is a class designed for individuals who need practical Survival Spanish skills necessary for business or travel. Emphasis in basic grammar, activities for asking and giving personal information using vocabulary and introduction to verb usage (present tense) will be included in the course content. A Spanish-English dictionary is necessary for the course.
SPANISH - INTERMEDIATE
This is a class designed for individuals who need practical Survival Spanish skills necessary for business or travel describing places and their location. A conversational approach to speaking the language in order to communicate. A Spanish-English dictionary is necessary for the course
SPANISH-CONVERSATIONAL (Beginning)
This is a conversational approach to speaking the language in order to communicate. You need to have the basic elements in Spanish grammar like verb to be (ser o estar), how to ask the correct questions and give the answers, how to use verbs in present, and past tense. A Spanish-English dictionary is necessary for the course.
